September 8, 2019 Announcements

On Friday, September 13 at 7 p.m. we will have a family movie night and ice cream social here at the Center. We will watch the documentary film “Ma and Me” about the life of Anandamayi Ma, the Indian woman saint who Paramahansa Yogananda met and wrote about in Autobiography of a Yogi.  Children are invited to join their parents in the chapel to watch the film. Ice cream will be provided in the social room after the movie.

We will have a long meditation and two commemorative services in honor of our Param-Param Guru Lahiri Mahasaya in September.

On Thursday, September 26, we will celebrate the  Mahasamadhi of Lahiri Mahasaya. There will be a meditation from 7:00 to 7:40p.m. followed by the Commemorative service at 8:00 p.m.

On Saturday, September 28 there will be a Kirtan Meditation from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. with a 30-minute break at 12:30 p.m.  Group Energization Exercises will be practiced prior at 9:40 a.m.

On Monday, September 30, we will celebrate the Birthday of Lahiri Mahasaya. There will be a meditation from 7:00 to 7:40p.m. followed by the Commemorative service at 8:00 p.m.

Please bring a flower and donation to offer during the Commemorative services.

We are happy to inform you that Seattle Center of SRF will be hosting an “introductory event” titled ‘Meditation: The Source of Lasting Joy’ on Wednesday, October 23 at the Eastside Baha’i Center in Bellevue. Monastics from the SRF Mother Center will be here for the event, which will include a public talk, a guided meditation, and an informal reception to allow attendees to find out more about the SRF Teachings and sign-up for the Lessons.

More information about the event and flyers will be forthcoming later this month, including ways in which you can participate in the publicity efforts. If you are interested in volunteering for this event, please contract Anand Balachandran.

August 25, 2019 Announcements

Our weekly 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. meditation on Saturday, September 7 will include Kirtan. Group Energization Exercises will be practiced at 9:40 a.m.

Alson on Saturday, September 7 we will have our next Day of Service. A vegetarian lunch will be served directly after the 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. meditation, and then we will do projects around the Center up until 5 p.m. For those who wish to come and meditate prior to the 1 p.m. lunch, you may enter quietly and join the last hour of the group meditation in the chapel either at 12:00 noon or 12:30 p.m. chanting. All are welcome for the Day of Service, including children, for any length of time that you can stay.

On Friday, September 13 at 7 p.m. we will have a family movie night and ice cream social here at the Center. More information will be forthcoming in next week’s announcements and on our website calendar.

On Saturday, August 24, we will celebrate Janmashtami, a Commemorative Service honoring the birth of Bhagavan Krishna. The service will begin at 8 p.m. and will be preceded by a silent meditation from 7 – 7:40 p.m. During the meditation, ushers will allow late arrivals to enter silently. Please bring a flower and a monetary offering in an envelope.

On each of these occasions we will have silent meditation from 7 – 7:40 p.m. followed by the commemorative service at 8 p.m. Please bring a flower and a donation for the evening commemorative services.

Our annual summer picnic will be held at nearby Hamlin Park following the Sunday services on July 22. All are invited for food, fellowship, and games. Please bring a vegetarian dish to share. The center will provide veggie burgers, buns and condiments. Directions to Hamlin Park will be on the bulletin board in the social room.

On Wednesday, July 25, we will have a commemorative meditation and service for Mahavatar Babaji. The commemorative service will begin at 8 p.m. and will be preceded by a silent meditation from 7 to 7:40 p.m. During the meditation, ushers will allow late arrivals to enter quietly, preserving the sacred atmosphere. Those attending the commemorative service are asked to bring a flower and a monetary offering in an envelope.

On Saturday, July 28, we will have a Kirtan meditation for Mahavatar Babaji from 3 to 9 p.m. There will be a 30-minute break at 5:30 p.m. with group Energization Exercises practiced at 5:40 p.m.

We will host a visit from our monastic counselor Bro. Devananda this September 20 – 23. Please refer to our July e-newsletter or the Summer Quarterly Events Schedule (available at the Information Table) for the detailed scheduled so you can mark your calendar.

This Saturday March 3rd, we will have a 6-hour meditation with Kirtan in honor of the mahasamadhi of Paramahansa Yogananda, held from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.  There will be a 30-minute break at 5:30 p.m. with group Energization Exercises practiced at 5:40 p.m. Please note the start time of 3 p.m. which is different than our usual Saturday meditation start time of 10 a.m.

We will commemorate the mahasamadhi of Paramahansa Yogananda on Wednesday, March 7th and the mahasamadhi of Swami Sri Yukteswar on Friday, March 9th. On each of these occasions we will have silent meditation from 7 – 7:40 pm followed by the commemorative service at 8 pm. Please bring a flower and a monetary offering. As a reminder, the ushers will allow late arrivals to quietly enter and join the meditation any time from 7 – 7:40 pm preceding the commemorative services.

<Start by reading the letter from the board of directors regarding Sri Mrinalini Mata’s passing.>

This Thursday, August 17th, we will hold a special prayer and meditation service to honor the life and passing of our beloved Sri Mrinalini Mata.  The times will be the same as our usual Thursday schedule, with the service being 7:30 – 8:30 pm, followed by a prayer and healing service lasting until 8:50 pm.

On Monday, August 14th (tomorrow) we will celebrate Janmashtami, a Commemorative Service honoring the birth of Bhagavan Krishna. The service will begin at 8 pm and will be preceded by silent meditation from 7 – 7:40pm. During the meditation, ushers will allow late arrivals to enter silently.  Please bring a flower and a monetary offering in an envelope.

This Saturday, August 19th, we will have a long Kirtan meditation for Bhagavan Krishna from 3 – 9 pm. There will be a break at 5:30 pm and group Energization Exercises at 5:40 pm.

During the upcoming SRF Convocation in Los Angeles, our annual group dinner for Seattle-area devotees will be held Wednesday, August 9th, 5:30 pm, at the Lakeside Bistro in the Bonaventure Hotel.  The price this year will be $26.50/person for the buffet.  This price includes tax and tip.  All are invited to join.  For those who who don’t wish to eat, but want to come for fellowship, please feel free.

Sunday School will be canceled on both August 6th and August 13th due to SRF Convocation.

We are happy to let you know that we’ll be celebrating India Night on Saturday, September 10 at our Center. This event will Center around the true Spirit of India that Gurudeva Paramahansa Yogananda brought to us almost 100 years ago. We will honor Mother India, our spiritual homeland with festive decorations, a featured silent auction, a gourmet vegetarian Indian meal, and an uplifting devotional program. We encourage all of you to wear your best Indian dress and enjoy this special fellowship event. Tickets to the event will be sold at the door on September 10. More information with a flyer about the event will be forthcoming. We look forward to your presence and participation.

At this time we are in need of volunteers and area leaders for audio-visual, setup and clean-up as well as many helping hands in the area of decorations, food serving, ticket sales, and program coordination. We will have volunteer sign-up sheets at the Info Table starting today after the Service.
