Announcements for Sunday, September 16, 2018

Our monastic counselor Bro. Devananda, will visit our Center along with Br. Troy this coming weekend September 20 – 23. The schedule is as follows:

  • Thursday, Sept 20: Monastic-led Inspirational Service at 7:30 p.m. followed by a Tea Reception.
  • Friday, Sept 21: Monastic-led Introspection Workshop 7 – 8:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, Sept 22: Kirtan meditation led by Bro. Devananda 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. preceded by group EE’s led by Br. Troy at 8:40 a.m.
  • Sunday, Sept 23: Monastic-led 10 a.m. meditation and 11 a.m. service which will include a satsang (answers to spiritual questions).  Please submit your questions for the monastics to the box in the social room or email them to info@srfseattlecenter.org. After the services at 12 p.m. we will have our annual Fall Harvest Potluck with monastics. Please bring a vegetarian dish to share.

On Wednesday, September 26, we will commemorate the Mahasamadhi of Lahiri Mahasaya. There will be a silent meditation from 7 – 7:40 p.m., during which you may enter silently at anytime, followed by the Commemorative Service from 8 – 9:30 p.m.

On Saturday, September 29, there will be a long kirtan meditation from 3 – 9 p.m. to commemorate Lahiri Mahasaya. There will be a 30-minute break at 5:30 p.m. with group Energization Exercises at 5:40. The usual 3-hour morning meditation is cancelled.

On Sunday, September 30, we will celebrate the birthday of Lahiri Mahasaya. There will be a silent meditation from 7 – 7:40 pm followed by the Commemorative Service from 8 – 9:30 p.m.

The subject for today’s service is, Creation and Man.

Today we will celebrate Janmashtami with a Commemorative Service honoring the birth of Bhagavan Krishna. The service will begin at 8 pm and will be preceded by a silent meditation from 7 – 7:40 p.m. During the meditation, ushers will allow late arrivals to enter silently.  Please bring a flower and a monetary offering in an envelope.

The Flower Committee would like to request that people refrain from watering the indoor plants at our Center, because it can cause the plants to become overwatered. There are volunteers assigned to water each of the indoor plants according to their needs. Thanks for your understanding. We will have our next Day of Service on Saturday, August 18th. A vegetarian lunch will be served directly after the 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. meditation, and then we will do projects around the Center up until 5 p.m. For those who wish to come and meditate prior to the 1 p.m. lunch, you may enter quietly and join the last hour of the group meditation in the chapel either at 12:00 noon or 12:30 p.m. during a period of chanting. All are welcome for the Day of Service, including children, for any length of time that you can stay.

For those who are unable to attend SRF Convocation in Los Angeles this week, SRF President Brother Chidananda’s Satsanga on Friday August 10th from 7:30 – 8:30 p.m. will be livestreamed on SRF’s YouTube channel.

We will host a visit from our monastic counselor Bro. Devananda and Br. Troy this September 20 – 23.  Please visit our Center’s website for scheduling details.

Due to many of our volunteers being at SRF Convocation, the usual 3-hour meditation will be cancelled this Saturday August 11, and Sunday School will be cancelled on Sunday August 12.

We will have our next Day of Service on Saturday, August 18th. During the upcoming SRF Convocation in Los Angeles, our annual group dinner for Seattle-area devotees will be held Wednesday, August 8th, at 5:30 pm, at the Lakeside Bistro in the Bonaventure Hotel. The price for the buffet will be $28/person which includes tax and tip.All are invited to join. For those who who don’t wish to eat, but want to come for fellowship, please feel free.

Also during Convocation, all are welcome to attend the annual Center Representatives’ Conference (CRC) on Thursday, August 9 from 12:30 – 2:00 p.m. in the California Ballroom. The conference will provide an opportunity to become more familiar with our Guru’s spiritual ideals for Self-Realization Fellowship centers and meditation groups. No advanced registration is required this year, and donations can be made at the event or in the Center Department room at Convocation.

The commemorative service will begin at 8 p.m. and will be preceded by a silent meditation from 7 to 7:40 p.m. During the meditation, ushers will allow late arrivals to enter quietly, preserving the sacred atmosphere. Those attending the commemorative service are asked to bring a flower and a monetary offering in an envelope.

On Saturday, July 28, we will have a Kirtan meditation for Mahavatar Babaji from 3 to 9 p.m.  There will be a 30-minute break at 5:30 p.m. with group Energization Exercises practiced at 5:40 p.m.
