Announcements for October 20, 2019

The Seattle Center of SRF will be hosting a free public lecture titled ‘Meditation: The Source of Lasting Joy’ on Wednesday, October 23 at the Eastside Baha’i Center in Bellevue. SRF Monastics Bro. Nakulananda and Br. Troy will conduct the event, which will include a guided meditation and be followed by an informal reception.

Flyers for the event are available in the Social Room. You may post these in your area at your workplace, grocery stores, bookstores, public libraries, restaurants, yoga studios, or give them to family and friends. Please be sure to obtain any necessary permissions before posting flyers, and we ask that you go back and take down the flyers after the event is done. Your help and efforts are much appreciated.

For those on Facebook, there is a page for the event which you are invited to “Like” and share.  We also have a landing page on our website devoted to the event which includes the flyer and can be shared.

On the day of the event: If the Baha’i Center parking lot is full, additional parking is available at Kindering, across the street from the Baha’i Center, just past the Bellevue Fire Station. There is also ample street parking near the Kindering lot and the Crossroads Park.

Today after the service we’ll have our Fall Harvest Potluck. If possible we’d like to invite our monastic guests to go through the food line first and then we’ll all follow. We are planning an informal outing with the monastics tomorrow, Monday Oct 21, during the 10:30am-2pm range which will include a ride on the Edmonds ferry, a short walk, and lunch. Please see the info sheet in the social room for more info and to sign-up. The monks will also lead a 7 p.m. inspirational service on Tuesday Oct 22, the day prior to the public lecture event.

There are two new bulletin boards in the social room. You are welcome to place your business cards to provide services on the “Devotee Resources” board. On the “Devotee Request for Assistance” board you are welcome to place requests for assistance. There are post-it notes and a pen attached to the “Request for Assistance” board. Please remove the request when it has been fulfilled.

The Thursday services and study group are cancelled on Oct 31, Halloween.

We will have our next Day of Service on Saturday, October 19. A vegetarian lunch will be served directly after the 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. meditation, and then we will do projects around the Center up until 5 p.m. For those who wish to come and meditate prior to the 1 p.m. lunch, you may enter the chapel during the Noon chant, or meditate in the Sunday School room. All are welcome, including children, for any length of time.

Announcements for October 6, 2019

All are invited to attend a One Day Retreat at our Center on Saturday, October 12 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. There will be periods of group meditation, Energization Exercises, readings, kirtan, a lunch break, and free-time to walk the grounds, read quietly, or meditate. The detailed schedule for the day is listed on our website’s online calendar.

We will have our next Day of Service on Saturday, October 19. A vegetarian lunch will be served directly after the 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. meditation, and then we will do projects around the Center up until 5 p.m. For those who wish to come and meditate prior to the 1 p.m. lunch, you may enter quietly and join the last hour of the group meditation by entering the chapel during the Noon chant, or meditate in the Sunday School room. All are welcome for the Day of Service, including children, for any length of time that you can stay.

The Seattle Center of SRF will be hosting a public “introductory event” titled ‘Meditation: The Source of Lasting Joy’ on Wednesday, October 23 at the Eastside Baha’i Center in Bellevue. SRF Monastics Bro. Nakulananda and Br. Troy will be here for the event, which will include a public talk, a guided meditation, and an informal reception to allow attendees to find out more about the SRF teachings and sign-up for the Lessons. If you are available to help put up flyers around town please contact Anand Balachandran.

Announcements for September 1, 2019

Our weekly 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. meditation on Saturday, September 7 will include Kirtan. Group Energization Exercises will be practiced at 9:40 a.m.

Also on Saturday, September 7 we will have our next Day of Service. A vegetarian lunch will be served directly after the 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. meditation, and then we will do projects around the Center up until 5 p.m. For those who wish to come and meditate prior to the 1 p.m. lunch, you may enter quietly and join the last hour of the group meditation in the chapel either at 12:00 noon or 12:30 p.m. chanting. All are welcome for the Day of Service, including children, for any length of time that you can stay.

On Friday, September 13 at 7 p.m. we will have a family movie night and ice cream social here at the Center. We will post further details about the movie selection on our website calendar.

We are happy to inform you that Seattle Center of SRF will be hosting an “introductory event” titled ‘Meditation: The Source of Lasting Joy’ on Wednesday, October 23 at the Eastside Bahai Center in Bellevue. Monastics from the Mother Center will be here for the event, which will include a public talk, a guided meditation, and an informal reception to allow attendees to find out more about the SRF Teachings (and sign-up for the Lessons!).

More information about the event and flyers will be forthcoming later this month, including ways in which you can participate in the publicity efforts. If you are interested in volunteering for this event, please get in touch with Anand Balachandran.

On Saturday, August 24, we will celebrate Janmashtami, a Commemorative Service honoring the birth of Bhagavan Krishna. The service will begin at 8 p.m. and will be preceded by a silent meditation from 7 – 7:40 p.m. During the meditation, ushers will allow late arrivals to enter silently. Please bring a flower and a monetary offering in an envelope.

Announcements for Sunday August 4, 2019

Many of our members will attend this year’s annual SRF Convocation starting tonight.  Note that Sunday School is canceled today and next Sunday due to many of our volunteers attending Convocation.  Tuesday August 6 7-9pm meditation will be canceled. The Saturday meditations and Thursday service at the Center will be held as usual during Convocation week. The Study Group on Thursday August 8 is canceled.

For those not attending Convocation, SRF is offering live streams of five events during Convocation on a pay-per-view basis.  We will be hosting viewings for three of these events here at the Center:

  • Tonight 7:30 – 8:30 p.m.: “The ‘Hidden’ Love and Joy of God”
  • On Friday, August 9, 7:30 p.m.: Satsanga with Brother Chidananda (president and spiritual head of SRF)
  • On Saturday, August 10, 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.:“Divine Friendship: Seeing God in All”

For those attending the livestream events, there is a suggested donation of $5 per event which we’ll use to purchase the livestreams.  The satsanga with Bro. Chidananda is offered free.

For those who wish to see the live streams at home, information can be obtained from the main SRF website.

Announcements for Sunday July 28, 2019

Many of our members will attend this year’s annual SRF Convocation August 4 – 10.  Note that Sunday School will be canceled on both August 4 and August 11 due to many of our volunteers attending Convocation.  Tuesday meditation on August 6 will be canceled. The Saturday meditations and Thursday service at the Center will be held as usual during Convocation week. The Study Group on Thursday August 8 is canceled.

For those not attending Convocation, SRF is offering livestreams of five events during Convocation on a pay-per-view basis.  We will be hosting viewings for three of these events here at the Center:

Our annual summer picnic will be held today at nearby Hamlin Park after the services. All are invited for food, fellowship, and games. Please bring a vegetarian dish to share. The center will provide veggie burgers, buns and condiments. Directions to Hamlin Park are posted on the bulletin board in the social room.

On Thursday July 25, we will have a commemorative service for Mahavatar Babaji beginning at 8 p.m. The service will be preceded by a silent meditation from 7 to 7:40 p.m, during which late arrivals may enter quietly. Those attending the commemorative service are asked to bring a flower and a monetary offering in an envelope.

On Saturday July 27, we will have a 6-hour Kirtan meditation from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. in commemoration of Mahavatar Babaji. Group Energization Exercises will be practiced at 9:40 a.m. and there will be a 30-minute break at 12:30 p.m.

We are pleased to share that our Center’s new front doors have been installed!  In addition to the aesthetic upgrade, the glass design allows light in, brightening our foyer, and enables our greeters to see when people are coming to open the door and welcome them.  Soon we will install shades on the front and rear doors.
