March 10, 2019 Announcements

Announcements for Sunday, March 10, 2019

We will have our next Day of Service on Saturday, March 23rd. A vegetarian lunch will be served directly after the 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. meditation, and then we will do projects around the Center up until 5 p.m. For those who wish to come and meditate prior to the 1 p.m. lunch, you may enter quietly and join the last hour of the group meditation in the chapel either at 12:00 noon or 12:30 p.m. during the chanting. All are welcome for the Day of Service, including children, for any length of time that you can stay.

In an effort to serve our members and volunteers better, we are planning to change our Thursday Inspirational Service time to 7 – 8 p.m. beginning in April. This 1-hour format will include praying for others and practicing the healing technique. We plan to try this change for at least the Spring and Summer quarters and then assess whether to continue.  Our hope is that the time change will be helpful to those who prefer not to drive at night, and support more attendance given the earlier end-time and the shorter 1-hour format.

Along with the new 7 p.m. start time for the Thursday service, the Study Group start time will shift earlier to 6:15 p.m. beginning in April.

Thanks for your understanding as we consider this scheduling change. Feedback is always welcome through the Suggestion Box in the foyer or through the Contact form on our website.

The subject for today’s service is, “The Inner Meaning of Self-Realization.”

We will commemorate the mahasamadhi of Paramahansa Yogananda this Thursday, March 7 and the mahasamadhi of Swami Sri Yukteswar this Saturday, March 9. On each of these occasions we will have silent meditation from 7 – 7:40 p.m. followed by the commemorative service at 8 p.m. Please bring a flower and a donation in an envelope for these services.

In an effort to serve our members and volunteers better, we are planning to change our Thursday evening schedule to hold the Inspirational Service 7 – 8 p.m beginning in April. This 1-hour format will include praying for others and practicing the healing technique, whereas previously we held a separate Prayer Service after the main service. We plan to implement this change as a 6-month trial for the Spring and Summer quarters and assess whether it is working well.  Our hope is that the earlier end-time will be helpful to those who prefer not to drive at night, and those who have commitments Friday morning.

Announcements for Sunday, January 6, 2019

There will be a 6-hour meditation with Kirtan on Saturday, January 12 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. to commemorate the birthday of our Paramahansa Yogananda.  Group Energization Exercises will be practiced at 9:40 a.m. prior to the meditation.  There will be a 30-minute break at 12:30 p.m. Please bring a fruit offering to place in the basket at the rear of the chapel prior to the meditation, to be taken as prasad at the conclusion of the meditation.

A note about the 2019 Saturday meditation schedule: As we’ve shared in recent newsletters, our 6-hour meditations in 2019 will start at 10 a.m., rather than 3 p.m. as was the case last year.  There will be a couple exceptions such as when Bro. Devananda leads kirtan meditation Feb 16 (held 9 a.m – Noon), and the Summer Solstice 6-hour June 22 (held 3 p.m – 9 p.m.).  Another small change for 6-hour meditations: we will practice Group Energization Exercises together at 9:40 a.m., and during the midway break 12:30 – 1 p.m. EE’s will be practiced individually. We hope this consistent Saturday schedule will be conducive to the most people possible being able to participate in our joyous group meditations.
