One Day Retreat

There will be a one-day retreat held at the SRF Seattle Center on Saturday, February 17, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There will be periods of group meditation, Energization Exercises, readings, kirtan, a lunch break, and free-time to walk the grounds, read quietly, or meditate. 

Day of Service

Day of Service will be held on Saturday, February 24, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. This follows the morning meditation from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Lunch will be provided. All are welcome to join in the joy of fellowship and service in cleaning, gardening and carrying out maintenance projects.

Seabeck Regional Retreat

Please mark your calendars. The Seabeck Regional Retreat this year has been scheduled for June 7 to 9 at the Seabeck Conference Center, which spans Friday to Sunday. The retreat will be led by Brother Jitananda and Brahmachari Gordon. More details about registration will be announced in the coming weeks.

Announcements for February 4, 2024

General Membership Meeting

Please join the Managing Council for the annual general membership meeting at 12:15 today to review 2023 activities and budget planning for 2024. There will be a special presentation highlighting the history of the Seattle Center. The meeting will run from 12:15 pm to no later than 2pm, and you are welcome to stay for as long as you’d like.

Seabeck Regional Retreat

Please mark your calendars. The Seabeck Regional Retreat this year has been scheduled for June 7 to 9 at the Seabeck Conference Center, which spans Friday to Sunday. We will be joined by two monastics from the ashrams of Paramahansa Yogananda. More details will be announced as they become available.

Youth Kirtan

On Sunday, January 28, the Seattle Center of SRF’s Youth Kirtan group will perform during the Reading Service from 11am – 12pm. This will be their third performance since the Youth Kirtan Group formed in 2023. We hope to have them join for Sunday Service on a quarterly basis going forward.

Spanish Reading Service

Our next Spanish Sunday reading service will be held 12 – 1 p.m. on Sunday, January 21, immediately following our usual Sunday reading service. The service format will be the same as our inspirational services, using Spanish translations of readings and chants provided by SRF. Printouts will be provided with words to the prayers and chants in Spanish. All are welcome.

Chanting Session in Hindi and English

Directly following the Sunday reading service today, we will have a 1-hour chanting session of Cosmic Chants in a combination of Hindi and English, held in the chapel starting at 12 p.m. Printed sheets will be provided with the words to the chants. All are welcome, including children, for any length of time.

New Year’s Eve Meditation

Please join us for New Year’s Eve meditation tonight from 11:30 p.m. – 12:30 a.m. as we greet the New Year. 

Paramahansa Yogananda Birthday Commemorative Services

On January 5, 2024, we will have a commemorative service for Paramahansa Yogananda’s birthday which will begin at 8 pm, preceded by meditation from 7 – 7:45 pm. It is customary to bring a flower and a donation in an envelope. All are invited to a special birthday celebration with cake after services conclude.

Commemorative Long Meditation for Paramahansa Yogananda’s birthday 

There will be a 6-hour meditation with Kirtan on January 6, 2024 from 10 am – 4 pm to commemorate the birthday of Paramahansa Yogananda.

Please join us for New Year’s Eve meditation on Sunday, December 31, from 11:30 p.m. – 12:30 a.m. as we greet the New Year.

Paramahansa Yogananda Birthday Commemorative Services

All-day Christmas Meditation

One of the highlights of the year-end holiday season for Self-Realization Fellowship members and friends around the world is the All-Day Christmas Meditation, a tradition inaugurated by Paramahansa Yogananda in 1931 and which he personally conducted for many years. The all day, 8 hour, Christmas meditation will be held on Saturday, December 16th, from 10 am to 6 pm. 

Monastic Christmas Visit

SRF monastics Bro. Sarvananda and Brahmachari Klaus will visit our Center from December 14 – 18, and the schedule is as follows:

• Thursday Dec 14: monastic-led Inspirational Service 7-8 p.m. followed by tea social
• Friday Dec 15: no events are planned for this day as we prepare for the All-Day Christmas Meditation the following day
• Saturday Dec 16: monastic-led All-Day Christmas meditation with kirtan 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.  Newcomers are asked to review the information sheet about the All-Day Christmas meditation available on the website, and will be available in the Social Room starting next week. 
• Sunday Dec 17: monastic-led 10 a.m. meditation and 11 a.m. service followed by our Christmas Social potluck.  Please bring a vegetarian dish to share.
• Monday Dec 18: informal outing with monastics. Current plan is to meet at the Woodland Park Zoo for a walk followed by lunch.  If you are interested to attend please sign up on the sheet in the social room at the Information Table. Your email or phone are needed so we can contact you in case of any change in plans. Questions about the outing can be directed to Lynnie Dhanak or Urmila Joshi-Phadnis.

Pre-Christmas and All-day Christmas Meditation

There will be a 4 hour pre-Christmas kirtan meditation held next Saturday December 9.
